Tall Enough | Short Film Directed By Barry Jenkins

The short film is part of Bloomingdale’s Film Festival, BFlix. I peeped the poster when I bought my new umbrella from Bloomingdale’s. You may or may not know of Jenkins through his film ‘Medicine for Melancholy’, which also touches on racial issues, a city’s division and general poverty surrounding romance. Give that a watch, if you can find it. Tall Enough is also about a romance and race, but doesn’t have time to get heavy for serious details.

Me…I absolutely ADORE this short. The phone conversation at the beginning sounds like me and my mother. It all is just…lovely.

I feel like arts heal the soul. An art, whatever medium it may manifest itself in or to whatever effect it may have, provides a therapeutic release for emotions, thoughts, ideas and spirit. For so many of us I know it’s true that on some days you wouldn’t have gotten through without a certain song. You wouldn’t have been able to have unload if you had you not paint that picture or scribbled the words to a poem. They give us the ability to create tangibles of intangibles and deal and connect to them. It’s what gives us a sense of balance and catharsis. It brings the mystical matter into the material form. And that’s why I’m an artiste. I am meant to create to give life to others as I give of myself.
